Sewer Ejector Pump Repair in Puyallup: Easy for a Change

By Royal Flush Plumbing

After: the sealed sewage ejector basin beside the washer in a Manorwood home in Puyallup, with its discharge and vent pipes and an alarm on the wall, September 2026.

Kim, a homeowner in Manorwood inside Puyallup’s city limits, called at the end of September because the sewage ejector pump beside the washer was acting up. James and Dylan put a new float on the pump and, while they were there, replaced the garbage disposal in the kitchen.

What We Did

A sewage ejector pump sits in a sealed basin below the level of the sewer line, collecting what the fixtures near it drain and pumping it up to the sewer. The float is the switch that tells the pump when to run. When a float sticks or wears out, the pump either runs when it should not or does not run at all, and the second case ends with sewage backing up out of the lowest drains. James installed a new float on the ejector pump, and in the kitchen the crew took out the old garbage disposal and put in a new one.

The Review

My sewer ejector pump was acting up. I called James and Dylan were out the next day. Called and let me know they could come 2 hours earlier. They were also able to replace my garbage disposal. Great team, friendly and efficient! Signed up for the membership! Thanks James and Dylan for making things easy for a change!

The membership Kim mentions is one of our two home protection plans, and the home page explains what each one includes.

Why It Matters

  • The float is a small part with a big job. It decides when the pump runs, and a float that sticks is a common reason an ejector basin overfills.
  • Everything below the sewer line depends on one pump. A laundry or bathroom below the line has no gravity to fall back on, so when the pump stops, those drains have nowhere to go.
  • One visit covered two jobs. The disposal was replaced on the same visit as the pump repair, with no second appointment to wait for.

Why Manorwood

Manorwood sits inside Puyallup’s city limits, where most homes drain to City of Puyallup sewer and the city’s own treatment plant on the Puyallup River. Out on the unincorporated edges of South Hill and Firgrove, a pump like this one may be feeding a septic tank instead, and every pump call we take starts by confirming which. We work across Puyallup every week, and our sump pump page covers sewage ejectors as well as groundwater pumps.
