Real Work in Puyallup

At the start of March, a South Hill kitchen sink drained on the disposal side and not at all on the left. Under the cabinet Jimmy found why: a double wye with a separate trap for each basin. He pulled the left trap, cleared the drain beyond it with a small cable, filled both basins to watch them empty together, and ran the dishwasher to make sure its water would not come back up the left side. The sink was back in service the same visit.

In April, a clogged drain call on the unincorporated edge of Puyallup turned out to be no clog at all: Jimmy found the septic tank full past its baffle, which no cable fixes. That is why the first question on a Puyallup drain call is sewer or septic. In Manorwood this fall, James and Dylan replaced the float on a sewage ejector pump, and the homeowner wrote about it.

What We Clear in Puyallup Homes

Kitchen sinks and dishwasher lines

A double sink can clog on one side only. We clear the branch that is blocked and run the dishwasher before we leave.

Main lines and the line to the tank

When the lowest drain backs up first, we clear from the cleanout and camera the line, and on septic we follow it to the tank. A failed pipe goes to sewer line repair.

Puyallup-Specific Considerations

City sewer inside the limits, septic on the edges

Most homes inside the city limits drain to City of Puyallup sewer and the city’s own treatment plant beside the Puyallup River. On South Hill, in Firgrove and on the unincorporated edges it changes street by street between Pierce County sewer and septic, and on septic we keep chemical cleaners and heavy jetting out.

Downtown’s older lines

The pre-war craftsmans around Downtown often still drain through original stacks and side sewers, so a line that clogs twice there gets a camera before anything else.

A side sewer repair is permitted work

Clearing a clog is service work, but repairing a side sewer needs a permit: from the City of Puyallup inside the limits, from Pierce County on unincorporated South Hill. Septic tanks and drainfields answer to the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department.

Our Process

1. Ask which drains, and sewer or septic

One fixture or several, and where the house drains to, decides where we start.

2. Clear the blocked branch

We work from the trap, the overflow or the cleanout until the line runs at full speed.

3. Camera a repeat clog

A clog that came back gets a camera, so any repair is priced on what the pipe shows.

4. Test with water

We fill the fixtures and run the dishwasher before we pack up.

FAQs About Drain Cleaning in Puyallup

How can I tell if my Puyallup home is on city sewer or septic?

Check your utility bill. A sewer charge from the City of Puyallup or Pierce County means the house is connected; no sewer charge usually means septic, often with tank lids or risers in the yard. The Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department also keeps septic records, which Pierce County lists among its online records.

Do I need a permit to repair a side sewer in Puyallup?

For a repair or a replacement, yes. Inside the city limits the City of Puyallup permits work on the private sewer line, and tying into the main in the street takes a separate right-of-way permit. Unincorporated South Hill goes through Pierce County instead, and we pull the permit with the repair.

Can a slow drain on South Hill really be a full septic tank?

Yes, and it is worth ruling out first. When a tank fills past its outlet baffle, the house line has nowhere to empty, so the lowest drains slow and then back up as if clogged. A cable will not fix that; pumping the tank will, and we tell you when that is the call.
